Lot 96 Colt Model 1909 .45 LC #42568
Vintage U.S. military large frame double action service revolver chambered in .45 Long Colt, manufactured circa 1911 in Hartford, CT. The model 1909 was an interim solution to the shortage of side arms created by the trials for the 1911. All but 350 of the 19,503 contracted revolvers were sent to the Manila Ordnance Depot in the Philippine Islands. This revolver is refinished, nickel plated, and fully hand engraved / signed with an authentication letter verifying that John Adams engraved this pistol. Featuring a 5 1/2" barrel, blade front sight, "U" notched top strap rear sight, smooth curved trigger, firing pin on hammer nose, checkered hammer spur, fluted six-shot cylinder, non-shrouded ejector rod, knurled ejector rod head, lanyard loop on the butt, and two-piece smooth ebony grips. All observed serial numbers are matching. Barrel is marked, "UNITED STATES PROPERTY," "P" & "R.A.C.," with a two-line address and patent mark on the top of the barrel. Revolver retains approximately 98% of it's nickel plating showing little wear and blemishes since being refinished. Action is crisp and smooth with a solid lock-up. The bore is good with strong rifling, and the cylinder chambers are also very good. Although, the pistol needs to be cleaned. The markings are sharp, and the wood grips are excellent. This revolver includes a letter of authenticity verifying the engraving.
